Exploring Akita on Foot.

After dropping off my luggage at the hotel, I took a short stroll through the town in front of the station.
The market, the park, and places where you can see Akita dogs are all within walking distance—just a short walk away whenever the mood strikes.

Kanto Festival

Held every August in Akita City, the “Kanto Festival” is one of the Three Great Festivals of Tohoku. The spectacular sight of participants balancing and maneuvering kanto—poles topped with rows of lanterns shaped like rice bales—on their foreheads or waists is truly breathtaking.

Kanto-dori Avenue, the festival venue, is easily accessible, so you can walk right back to the hotel while still savoring the festival’s atmosphere.

The hotel’s location right in front of the station makes it the perfect starting point for your adventures.

Oga and Ogata Village

Head to the Oga Peninsula—the birthplace of the Namahage tradition—and Ogata Village, home to vast reclaimed lands. As you explore the rugged coastline and the “Namahage Museum,” you’ll experience the roots of the culture that has thrived in Akita since ancient times.
