A bus that circulates around major spots in Akita City’s downtown area.

Fare: 100 yen per ride or per loop (Free for elementary school students and younger)

The ruins of Kubota Castle, built by the Satake clan, the first feudal lord of Akita Prefecture, who was transferred from Hitachi. Take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the seasonal scenery, such as cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in autumn.

Tsuguharu Fujita was a Western-style painter who was active in Paris and was known as “Léonard Fujita.” The world’s largest mural, “Events in Akita(Akita no Gyoji)” (3.65m high, 20.50m wide), in which he drew Akita in 1937, is a must-see.

5 minutes’ walk from Akita Station. Made-in-Akita, specialty products are lined up on display for sales in the basement of Atorion. A wide variety of items such as Kiritanpo, Inaniwa udon, traditional craft works, and local finest sakes are available.

Skilled performers powerfully hold up “Kanto” poles and parade through the streets in this festival. The poles themselves represent ears of rice, and the hanging lanterns represent sacks of rice, and people pray for a good harvest.

This Western-style building was constructed at the end of the Meiji period as the former head office of the Bank of Akita. The exterior is in the Renaissance style, while the interior is in the Baroque style. The building is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

Located close to the station, this market sells various seasonal flavors of Akita, such as fresh seafood, wild vegetables, mushrooms, and fruits, all locally sourced. Akita specialty ingredients such as kiritanpo and local finest sakes are also available.
