Ogata Village was created through the reclamation of Hachirōgata Lake and is known for its vast rural landscapes and abundant natural beauty. Major attractions include the approximately 11-kilometer-long Cherry Blossom and Rapeseed Flower Road and a museum where visitors can learn about the history of the reclamation project.

Prefectural Route 298 in Ogata Village, Akita Prefecture—commonly known as “Cherry Blossom and Rapeseed Flower Road”—transforms into “Sunflower Road” in the summer. Every year around early August, sunflowers begin to bloom vibrantly along the 11-kilometer stretch. The straight road, colored in vivid yellow, delights both the eyes and hearts of drivers.

Unosaki Coast (Oga City): A scenic spot gaining attention as “Akita’s Uyuni Salt Flats.” This 1.5-kilometer stretch of coastline is located in the southern part of the Oga Peninsula. On calm days, the scenery is beautifully reflected on the water’s surface like a mirror.

Over 1,500 hydrangea plants, cultivated over 15 years by Shuun Konaka, the assistant priest of Unshōji Temple, blanket the temple grounds in a sea of blue. Beyond the hydrangeas, the sea of Oga stretches out, offering a view unique to this location. Peak bloom typically occurs in late June, with the best viewing period lasting from mid-June to early July.

In addition to the impressive large tank that recreates the habitat of fish in the “Oga Sea,” there are fascinating sea animals such as seals and penguins. The polar bears play with toys and swim happily, never getting viewers tired.
