A scenic spot gaining attention as “Akita’s Uyuni Salt Flats.” Located along a 1.5-kilometer stretch of coastline in the southern part of the Oga Peninsula. On calm days, the landscape reflects like a mirror on the water’s surface, creating a beautiful scene.

Over 1,500 hydrangea plants, cultivated over 15 years by Shuun Konaka, the assistant priest of Unshōji Temple, blanket the temple grounds in a sea of blue. Beyond the hydrangeas, the sea of Oga stretches out, offering a view unique to this location. Peak bloom typically occurs in late June, with the best viewing period lasting from mid-June to early July.

In addition to the impressive large tank that recreates the habitat of fish in the “Oga Sea,” there are fascinating sea animals such as seals and penguins. The polar bears play with toys and swim happily, never getting viewers tired.

Masks and costumes from the nationally known folk event “Oga’s Namahage,” are on display, and related films are shown on a large screen. Don’t miss the “Namahage All-Stars Corner,” where more than 150 Namahage are gathered.

Opened in 2018 as a multi-purpose tourist facility in Oga City, this roadside station also houses a restaurant serving fresh seafood caught in the Oga Sea and dishes made with local Oga ingredients. It offers a wide selection of Oga’s unique products and specialties, including fresh seafood caught in the Oga Sea, seasonal vegetables picked that morning, locally produced processed goods, and crafts.
